Program Overview
The Doctoral Program in Economics is designed to form researchers who make original contributions in a field of knowledge in economics. The program aims to provide a flexible plan of studies that contains advanced formative, theoretical, and instrumental elements to develop research in frontier topics.
Objectives
- Offer a plan of studies that prepares students for research in frontier topics
- Prepare new high-level teaching staff to contribute to the formation of specialists in various fields of knowledge
- Form professionals who can address major national economic problems with an updated and plural approach
Profile of Admission
The applicant should possess solid knowledge and demonstrate research skills to develop and conclude their research successfully. They should be able to prepare a research project that includes a frontier topic in economics, know the relevant bibliography, incorporate a hypothesis, describe the methodology to test it, and plan feasible work to complete it within four years.
Profile of Graduation
The graduate will have the capacity to perform frontier research and will be qualified to work as a high-level professional in any labor field, given their theoretical, methodological, and technical competence.
Plan of Studies
The plan of studies includes:
- A research project that leads to a doctoral thesis
- Courses, seminars, workshops, and teaching activities that provide solid academic formation and general knowledge of economics, as well as specific knowledge in the student's field of interest
Structure of the Plan
The plan is structured into eight semesters, with activities agreed upon semestually by the student and their principal tutor, approved by the Academic Committee. The activities include:
- Research project and its advances, evaluated at the end of each semester
- Courses, seminars, and workshops that provide academic formation

Requirements
- Participation in at least one Doctoral Colloquium before presenting the candidacy exam
- Dominance of the English language as a requirement for obtaining the degree
Evaluation
- The student's Comité Tutor evaluates the research project and its advances
- The Academic Committee approves the plan of work and evaluates the student's progress
