Elementary Education Program Overview
The Elementary Education program at the University of South Florida prepares individuals to become university professors at the college level, within school districts, local, state, national, or international agencies. Graduates of the program acquire the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to assume roles as leaders, advocates, and scholars in the development and implementation of high-quality and innovative elementary education practices.
Program Details
- The doctoral program is offered on the Tampa campus only.
- There is the possibility of taking a few foundations courses online.
- Course work must be completed within four years of admission into the program.
- The dissertation must be completed within four years after admission to candidacy.
- Doctoral degrees must be completed within seven (7) years from the student's original date of admission for doctoral study.

Financial Assistance
- The University of South Florida and the College of Education, as well as many independent organizations, offer scholarships and fellowships.
- Within the Elementary Education Program, doctoral student assistantships are offered. Graduate assistants teach courses and supervise preservice teachers within the elementary education programs. Students receive tuition waivers and a yearly stipend.
Program Structure
- Students are admitted into the program in the fall, spring, and summer.
- When an application file is complete, applicants who meet the academic criteria will be invited to interview with the Admissions Committee.

The program provides research opportunities, with a focus on high-quality and innovative elementary education practices.
