Introduction to the Finance Talent Pathway
The Finance Talent Pathway at the University of South Florida offers a signature experience to a small cohort of highly-driven students in their first two years of college. This program is designed to assist students in pursuing highly competitive careers in finance, including investment banking, private equity, private credit, asset management, private wealth management, consulting, corporate finance leadership programs, and other highly rewarding positions.
Program Overview
The Finance Talent Pathway is highly competitive, and strong candidates are highly motivated to succeed in the most competitive industries in finance. Key factors considered for selection include career interests, work and entrepreneurial experiences, high-school or college extracurricular activities, AP credits, AP courses, SAT, ACT scores, and college coursework.
Admission Criteria
- Applications are open to incoming freshmen and sophomores with a major or minor in finance or other areas offered by the Kate Tiedemann School of Business and Finance.
- Meeting the required and recommended criteria does not guarantee acceptance.
- Cohort size is limited to optimize the experience of the students.
- The selection process is highly competitive.

Participants will compete with the best and brightest in the nation for internships and full-time jobs. Key questions to consider before applying include:
- Do I have good attention to detail, initiative, strong analytical and communication skills, and high intellectual curiosity?
- Am I willing to invest significant time and effort in and outside of class to network and prepare for interviews?
- Given my personality and aspirations, is this type of career (fast-paced and competitive) a good fit?
- Am I willing/interested in working in large metropolitan cities and financial centers?
What happens once I submit my application?
Applications are processed on a rolling basis. Selected candidates will be invited to interview.
Is Finance Talent Pathway part of the Honors College?
The Finance Talent Pathway is not a certificate program or part of the Honors College. It will also not appear on transcripts.
Are there extra classes I must take?
No additional courses are required. Instead, the program provides exclusive training opportunities such as the Wall Street Prep passport, Wall Street Prep in-person Excel Modeling seminars, and an opportunity to visit multiple companies in New York City.
Are there scholarships available?
Participants will receive financial support to complete the WSP Student Passport online free of charge and almost-all-expense-covered two all-day instructor-led WSP seminars on Financial Statement and Valuation in the fall semester and M&A and LBO Modeling in the spring semester. Scholarships will also be provided to support most, if not all, travel and lodging related expenses during the exclusive company visit to New York.
What are some of the co-curricular activities?
- Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) Certification: Participants should complete Bloomberg (BMC) certification within 2 months of entering the program.
- Research using Capital IQ and regularly reading business news such as Wall Street Journal or Barron’s
- Advanced Excel and Financial Modeling Training including the Wall Street Prep (WSP) Student Passport online and two all-day instructor-led WSP seminars on Financial Statement and Valuation in the fall semester and M&A and LBO Modeling in the spring semester
- Networking: Participants must join invited networking meetings as often as possible.
- Leadership development: Participants are expected to actively participate or take a leadership position in business student organizations to develop networking and leadership skills.
- Company visit(s): Participants will receive scholarships for the faculty-led student group annual visit to New York City.
- Internships: Participants should secure at least one finance/accounting internship/co-op before junior year and a finance internship in the summer of junior year that has high potential to lead to a full-time position of the field/firm in which the student is interested.
- Peer Mentoring and Giving Back: Participants who show outstanding performance may be invited to serve as peer mentors after successful completion of the first year of the program.
Program Requirements
All admitted freshmen must maintain an overall GPA of at least 3.5 at the University of South Florida and meet the program requirements, including active and on-time participation in mandatory training sessions and seminars. Failure to do so will result in dismissal from the program.
