Program Overview
The program is designed to train teachers who can teach at lower and upper secondary schools (Sekundarstufe I and II) in the canton of Zurich and other cantons. The program is offered by the Institute of Education (IfE) and leads to a teaching diploma for one, two, or more subjects.
Institute of Education
The Institute of Education (IfE) is responsible for the program. For the subject "Religion," the IfE cooperates with the Theological Faculty. The focus of the subject lies on either religious studies or Christian-theological content, depending on the employing school. Therefore, students of both religious studies and theology are admitted to the program.
Admission Requirements
The admission requirements vary depending on whether the student aims to teach "Religion" as their only or first subject, or as their second subject.
"Religion" as the Only or First Subject
- Requirement for admission to the program: Bachelor's degree with at least 60 ECTS credits in religious studies or theology, and enrollment in the master's program in religious studies or theology as the major subject.
- Requirement for admission to the diploma examination: Master's degree with a master's thesis in religious studies or theology.
"Religion" as the Second Subject
- Requirement for admission to the program: Bachelor's degree with at least 60 ECTS credits in religious studies or theology.
- Requirement for admission to the diploma examination: Master's degree with study components in religious studies or theology totaling at least 30 ECTS credits (major or minor subject).
Special Requirements for Active Teachers
Special requirements apply to active teachers who wish to teach "Religion" as a subject.
