Program Overview
Master's Program in Ancient Studies
The Master's program in Ancient Studies offers two options: a Mono (120 ECTS credits) and a complementary Minor (30 ECTS credits). The Mono Master's program is dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of the ancient Mediterranean region and can be pursued without prerequisites by those who have earned at least 30 ECTS credits in ancient studies modules and hold a Bachelor's degree in one of the following fields: Classical Philology (Greek or Latin Philology), History, Archaeology, or Theology. Any missing Bachelor's credits can be completed during the Master's program in the form of additional requirements.
The Master's Minor is a complementary program that does not require a Bachelor's degree in the same field, allowing students to begin their ancient studies in the Master's program.
Program Description
The two Master's programs in Ancient Studies provide an in-depth examination of the Greek-Roman antiquity of the Mediterranean region as a whole. Students will engage with major literary classics, significant archaeological evidence, pivotal historical events, and important religious expressions and philosophical currents. The programs offer the opportunity for extensive individual specialization, including the development of a personal language portfolio (e.g., Graecum, Latinum, Classical Egyptian, Hebrew, Akkadian, etc.).
