Allgemeines und Studienordnungen

The Master Major-Studienprogramm Empirische Kulturwissenschaft 90 is designed for students who have started their studies in the Master-Major program (90 ECTS) in or after the fall semester 2019. This program is subject to the latest study regulations.

  • A compilation of information on the Master-Studienprogramme can be found in the Wegleitung Master Empirische Kulturwissenschaft and in the Wegleitung of the Philosophical Faculty.
  • Study regulations (general part) for the study in the Bachelor and Master programs at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Zurich
  • Framework ordinance on the Bachelor and Master programs at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Zurich

Module, Modulgruppen & Leistungsnachweise

All courses are part of a module or form their own module. There are three types of modules:

  1. Mandatory modules (P) that are obligatory and must be completed once during the course of study;
  2. Elective modules (WP) that can be taken at most once during the course of study;
  3. Optional modules (W) that can be freely chosen.

The modules are grouped into module groups. These module groups are relevant for the correct composition of the 90 ECTS points that make up the study program as a whole. To successfully complete the program, not only must all P-modules be covered, but also the necessary minimum credit points per module group must be achieved, and the respective conditions must be met (share of WP). The exact numbers and conditions are presented in the special part of the study regulations for Empirische Kulturwissenschaft.

A detailed description of the modules and the corresponding examination forms (= module catalog) can be found here.

Please also note the corresponding information sheet on module-specific performance records (PDF, 151 KB).

Aufbau des Studiums & Abschluss

The Major with 90 ECTS points is flexible in design and is to be structured by the students themselves. Recommendations for the structure can be found in the model curriculum. The P-modules must all be attended and passed. In addition, all module group rules must be fulfilled (minimum credit points and conditions/ share of WP). The Master's colloquium (one semester) and the Master's thesis (at most two semesters) are usually at the end of the study.

The Philosophical Faculty provides information on all questions related to the completion of the study.
