Program Overview
The Doctoral Program RWF is a three-year program that includes the preparation of a dissertation and the completion of modules worth at least 30 ECTS credits.
Admission
Admission to the doctoral program at the University of Zurich is the responsibility of the Admissions Office. The general admission requirements of the University of Zurich and the specific admission requirements for the doctoral program must be observed.
Application
Requirements
Admission to the Doctoral Program RWF is subject to the admission regulations of the Promotionsverordnung. Those who are deemed suitable by the Admissions Committee are admitted to the program.
Procedure
- Determine the main supervisor (issue confirmation for doctoral students)
- Select the other members of the Promotionskommission in consultation with the main supervisor (submit an application for the establishment of the Promotionskommission)
- Submit the application documents to the Admissions Committee (observe the application deadline)
- (Possibly conduct a personal interview)
- The Admissions Committee decides who will be admitted to the doctoral program.
- Enroll or change the course of study at the Admissions Office

- Curriculum vitae with photo
- Copies of previous academic and school certificates
- Supervision confirmation for doctoral students
- Enrollment certificate as a doctoral student or proof that the requirements for enrollment are met (Master of Law or equivalent and faculty member who agrees to take over supervision)
- Application for the establishment of the Promotionskommission, which can be downloaded from the Forms section
- Two letters of recommendation
- Exposé (maximum five pages, provides information on the research project, questions, any previous work, and the current state of relevant research and literature)

- Autumn semester: April 1 - May 31
- Spring semester: September 1 - October 31
Curriculum
The curriculum includes, in addition to the two compulsory modules, further modules that can be chosen individually. There is also a wide range of continuing education opportunities within and outside the university. A performance record must be provided for each module.
The curriculum is divided into:
- Compulsory modules worth 12 ECTS credits
- Modules from the elective pool worth 18 ECTS credits
The doctoral student submits a proposal regarding the module selection to the Promotionskommission at the beginning of the doctoral program. This is discussed and the result is recorded in the doctoral agreement.

Elective Pool (18 ECTS Credits)
- Attendance at conferences, holding scientific lectures, writing scientific texts, etc. | ECTS credits by agreement
- Entire offer of master's programs at the University of Zurich or equivalent offer | ECTS credits according to Web VVZ
- Advanced module at the doctoral level | after announcement
- Entire continuing education offer of the University of Zurich or equivalent continuing education offers from other universities | ECTS credits by agreement
Modules
The modules are to be booked during the booking period according to the general module booking instructions. With the booking, registration for the performance record takes place. Excluded from this are the doctoral colloquia, for which registration must be done directly through the respective chair.
