Program Overview

The Lehrdiplom für Maturitätsschulen (Teaching Diploma for Maturitätsschulen) in Religionswissenschaft (Religious Studies) is a program offered by the University of Zurich.

Prerequisites for the Program

The training for the teaching diploma in religious studies for Maturitätsschulen can be started in parallel with the Master's program in Religious Studies. The required subject-specific achievements must be proven by the time of registration for the diploma examination.

In addition to the prescribed study achievements within the Religious Studies program, a total of 6 ECTS credits in theology (biblical-historical or systematic-practical) must be completed in all variants (Religious Studies as a major or minor). If these ECTS credits are not completed within the regular Religious Studies program, they must be made up for by the time of registration for the diploma examination.

Diploma Examination

When registering for the diploma examination, it must be proven that a Religious Studies program has been successfully completed and that the necessary study achievements in theology have been completed. A list of the completed ECTS credits in Religious Studies must be submitted to the study advisory service for Religious Studies and included in the application documents for the diploma examination with the confirming signature of the study advisory service.

Additionally, 6 ECTS credits in religious studies subject didactics must be available. These can be completed within the Religious Studies study program as part of "Further Curricular Modules" or in addition to it. If no corresponding offer in religious studies subject didactics takes place during the study program, these 6 ECTS credits can also be acquired in theological religious pedagogy.

The decision on admission in the case of licentiate students is made by the Religious Studies study commission in consultation with the Institute of Educational Science, Department of Teacher Education Maturitätsschulen.
