University Program Information

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) offers various undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the Faculty of Science.


Undergraduate Programs

  • Science Core Programmes: The Faculty of Science offers a range of undergraduate programs, including the BSc, BSc&MRes, BSc&LLB, and BSc(ActuarSc) degrees.
    • BSc Degree Curriculum: The BSc degree curriculum includes a range of courses in science and mathematics, as well as electives in other fields.
    • Graduation Requirements & Honours Classification: Students must complete a minimum number of credit units and achieve a certain grade point average to graduate with honours.
    • Degree Regulations: The Faculty of Science has specific regulations regarding degree requirements, course selection, and graduation.
  • Programmes offered by School of Computing and Data Science: The School of Computing and Data Science offers several undergraduate programs, including the BASc(AppliedAI), BASc(FinTech), BSc(ActuarSc), and BSc(Statistical Decision Sciences) degrees.
  • Programme co-hosted with other Faculty: The Faculty of Science also offers programs co-hosted with other faculties, such as the BEd&BSc degree.

Postgraduate Programs

  • Taught Postgraduate Programme: The Faculty of Science offers several taught postgraduate programs, including the MSc in Applied Geosciences, MSc in Chemical Technologies for Health and Materials, and MSc in Environmental Management.
  • Research Postgraduate Programme: The Faculty of Science also offers research postgraduate programs, including the Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees.
  • Joint PhD Degree Programme with other University: The University of Hong Kong has a joint PhD degree program with King's College London, which allows students to pursue a PhD degree jointly awarded by both universities.

Joint PhD Degree Programme with King's College London

  • Programme Features: Students admitted to the joint PhD program will be registered as full-time students at both universities and will have access to the full range of academic and facilities at both institutions.
  • Admissions: Interested applicants should first contact the Faculty concerned to discuss available supervisors and subject areas. Students must meet the entry requirements of both universities.
  • Fees, Scholarships, and Other Expenses: Joint PhD candidates will pay tuition fees to the admitting university for the whole period of candidature. Applicants applying through The University of Hong Kong can apply for Postgraduate Scholarship (PGS) and University Postgraduate Fellowship (UPF).
  • Award of Degree: Upon successful completion of the program, a student will be conferred a PhD degree jointly awarded by HKU and KCL.
