Introduction to the HKU-PKU Dual Degree Programme in Law

The HKU-PKU Dual Degree Programme in Law is a rigorous and demanding programme that allows students to earn two Bachelor of Laws degrees, one from the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and one from Peking University (PKU). This programme is designed for high-quality applicants from Hong Kong or Mainland China who wish to pursue a career in law.

Programme Information

• The programme normally requires ten semesters of full-time study, i.e., five academic years of full-time study.
• Students admitted to this dual degree programme at HKU will spend the first two and a half years at HKU and a further two and a half years at PKU.
• Upon successful completion of the entire programme at both HKU and PKU, candidates will be awarded an LLB degree from the respective universities, i.e., HKU LLB (common law jurisdiction) and PKU LLB (civil law jurisdiction).

Curriculum Requirements

• To complete the curriculum, a student shall pass in courses totalling at least 174 credits in value in the first two and a half years of study at HKU.
• Students must also satisfy the curriculum requirements for the following two and a half years of study at PKU, which is equivalent to 126 credits in value at HKU.

Admissions

• This dual degree programme looks for high-quality applicants from either Hong Kong or Mainland China.
• Eligible Hong Kong applicants should submit application via HKU Law, whereas Mainland students sitting for Mainland Gaokao should apply for this dual degree programme via PKU Law.

Eligibility

• To be eligible for admission into this dual degree programme, applicants must satisfy ALL of the following criteria:
  • Hold a valid Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macau Residents and not be a student from Macau;
  • Complete senior high schooling in Hong Kong; and
  • Have a high level of proficiency in both spoken and written Chinese (Putonghua) and English.

Entry Requirements

• Via JUPAS Admissions Scheme:
  • English and the best five HKDSE subjects, including category A subjects and M1/M2, with at least an overall score of 42;
  • Attained (A) in Citizenship and Social Development;
  • Level 5 or above in English Language; and
  • Level 4 or above in each of the best five subjects.
• Via non-JUPAS Admissions Scheme:
  • GCE A-level: Minimum grades 3A* (excluding Chinese and English language subjects, Critical Thinking, General Studies, Global Perspectives and Research, Knowledge and Enquiry, Project Work, Thinking Skills, and Extended Project Qualification); or
  • IB Diploma: a minimum of 41 points overall, with no score lower than 6 in any examined subject, and at least 19 points in three Higher Level subjects; or
  • An equivalent standard in an alternative qualification that satisfies the University of Hong Kong’s entry requirements.

Fees and Scholarship

• Students will pay the HKU tuition fees for the first and second years of study at HKU.
• Outstanding students may be awarded entrance scholarships for study at HKU.
