The Diploma in Dance programme is designed to provide advanced dance training, focusing on artistic refinement and physical conditioning. The programme covers various dance styles, including tap dance, jazz dance, contemporary dance, and Hip Hop.

Programme Features

Programme Structure

The programme consists of four units, with each unit including a masterclass. The units are:

• Unit 1: Contemporary Dance (II)
• Unit 2: Tap Dance (II)
• Unit 3: Hip Hop Dance (II)
• Unit 4: Jazz Dance (II)

Assessment

The assessment includes:

• Tap Dance (II): Students are required to submit a reflective report (at least 50 words) on their learning experience and perform a 5-minute tap dance solo.
• Jazz Dance (II): Students are required to write a 800-word dance critique on a given jazz dance work and perform a 5-minute jazz dance solo.
• Contemporary Dance (II): Students are required to write a 800-word dance critique on a given contemporary dance work and create and perform a 4-minute contemporary dance duet.
• Hip Hop Dance (II): Students are required to prepare a 5-minute oral presentation on the development of Hip Hop and create and perform a 4-minute Hip Hop group dance (6-7 people per group).

Programme Outcomes

Upon completing the programme, students should be able to:

1. Describe the history and development of dance.
2. Distinguish between different dance styles, including tap dance, jazz dance, contemporary dance, and Hip Hop.
3. Demonstrate the five elements of dance: space, shape, power, flow, and time.
4. Use professional dance terminology to critique dance performances.

Programme Team

The programme team includes:

• Rebecca Wong (黃美玉): Programme Leader, with a background in modern dance and a Master's degree in Dance from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
• Calvin Tang (鄧偉豐): Instructor, with a background in music theatre and a diploma in Tap Dance from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
• Rex Chiu (趙浩然): Instructor, with a background in music theatre and a diploma in Tap Dance from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
• Lokin So (蘇樂鍵): Instructor, with a background in Hip Hop dance and experience in choreography and performance.

Admission Requirements

Basic Admission Requirements

Applicants should:

• Have completed the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination or the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education.
• Hold a Level 4 or above qualification in dance from a recognized institution, such as the Royal Academy of Dance or the Beijing Dance Academy.
• Alternatively, applicants may hold a "Dance Foundation Certificate" awarded by the Hong Kong University School of Professional and Continuing Education.
