Course Profile

General Course Information

The course code for Advanced Company Law is LLAW3015. This course is offered under the LLB Programme and is taught in the second semester. It is not designated as a research course and specializes in commercial, corporate, and financial law. The prerequisites for this course include having taken and passed LLAW3010 Business Associations. This course is not offered to non-law students and is worth 6 credits.


Course Description

The educational aim of this course is to convey a deep knowledge and understanding of key issues in company law. It allows students to apply these skills in practice through critical assessment of literature and jurisprudence. The course focuses on key company law topics, including shareholder remedies and directors' duties/liabilities, along with the policy objectives underpinning the development of relevant statutes and underlying case law. This course equips students with critical insights into the subject necessary for those expecting to become corporate law specialists in firms with an international dimension. It also provides a substantial foundation for those intending to go on to graduate studies with a corporate law focus.
