Executive MBA Program Overview

The Executive MBA program at Wharton delivers the undiluted MBA curriculum to working professionals through a residential every-other-weekend format tailored for working professionals. The program emphasizes an intensive core in general management and an unmatched selection of electives in a collaborative environment. The intensive, cross-functional core curriculum provides business fundamentals and the leadership, communication, and analytical skills that are critical to success. Through electives in the second year, students may develop one or more areas of expertise or continue to develop a breadth of knowledge.

Students are required to complete the core EMBA curriculum and may complete the rest of the required course units with electives. Students in the Executive MBA Program are not required to declare a major but have the option to do so if the necessary electives are offered.

  • EMBA Core Requirements: 9.5 course units

Concentrations

Health Care Management

The Health Care Management concentration requires three course units, all taken for a letter grade. One course unit comes from the required courses, including 0.5 from a capstone project, supervised by a Wharton faculty member, and delivered through either an independent study or a HCM Global Modular Course.

  • Required Courses:
    • HCMG 8410: Introduction to Health Management and Economics (0.5 course units)
    • HCMG 8990: Independent Study (0.5 course units)
    • or HCMG 8980: Global Modular Course (0.5 course units)

    • HCMG 8630: Management and Economics of Pharmaceutical and Biotech Industries (0.5 course units)
    • HCMG 8670: Health Care Entrepreneurship (0.5 course units)

Business Analytics

The Business Analytics concentration requires 2.5 course units in addition to the core/required Statistics and OIDD courses. These required courses are:

  • STAT 6130: Regression Analysis for Business (1 course unit)
  • OIDD 6110: Quality and Productivity (0.5 course units)
  • OIDD 6120: Business Analytics (0.5 course units)
  • OIDD 6150: Operations Strategy (0.5 course units)

The remaining 2.5 course units must come from the following elective courses:

  • ACCT 7471: Financial Disclosure Analytics (0.5 course units)
  • FNCE 7050: Investment Management (1 course unit)
  • FNCE 7170: Financial Derivatives (1 course unit)
  • FNCE 7800: FinTech (0.5 course units)
  • MGMT 7930: People Analytics (0.5 course units)
  • MKTG 7120: Data and Analysis for Marketing Decisions (0.5 course units)
  • MKTG 7540: Pricing Policy (0.5 course units)

  • STAT 7010: Modern Data Mining (1 course unit)
  • STAT 7220: Predictive Analytics for Business (0.5 course units)

At most 1 course unit can be double-counted with a major. For example, if a student took FNCE 7050, FNCE 7170, and OIDD 6530 as part of their Finance major, they would not automatically be able to obtain the Business Analytics concentration and would still need 2 course units from the remaining elective courses.

The degree and major requirements displayed are intended as a guide for students entering in the Fall of 2025 and later. Students should consult with their academic program regarding final certifications and requirements for graduation.
