Program Overview
Biological Sciences Program
The Biological Sciences program at UC Davis encompasses a wide range of disciplines, from the molecular mechanisms of life to the complex interactions between organisms and their environments. This program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the biological sciences, preparing them for careers in fields such as research, healthcare, conservation, and education.
Major Requirements
Students in the Biological Sciences program will begin their studies with foundation courses in biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics. They will then progress to depth coursework that spans various biology disciplines. The program offers two degree options: a Bachelor of Arts (A.B.) and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.). The A.B. degree provides greater flexibility to incorporate coursework outside the Biological Sciences major, while the B.S. degree requires more upper-division coursework and allows students to specialize in areas such as molecular biology and genetics, animal behavior, plant growth and development, bioinformatics, marine biology, forensics, and microbiology.
Careers
Graduates of the Biological Sciences program can pursue a variety of careers, including:
- Pharmacist
