Program Overview


Health and Wellness Coach, Certificate

The Health and Wellness Coach certificate program brings together coursework from the disciplines of exercise and wellness, nutrition, behavioral health, and coaching psychology. Students develop a strong background in, perspective on, and practical experience in the techniques and methods used to decrease and prevent chronic disease risks.


Program Description

Students in this program learn and practice:


  • coaching communication skills
  • evidence-based behavior change methodologies
  • guiding individuals through meaningful lifestyle changes
  • health coaching techniques
  • strategies to influence sustainable healthy lifestyles

Faculty monitor student-led coaching sessions to provide feedback on how students may improve their coaching skills. A final practical skills evaluation is completed to assess a student's health and wellness coaching ability.

Curriculum

The certificate in health and wellness coaching consists of 24 credit hours. A minimum grade of "C" (2.00 on a 4.00 scale) is required for each course.

A student pursuing an undergraduate certificate must be enrolled as a degree-seeking student at ASU. Undergraduate certificates are not awarded before the completion of an undergraduate degree. A student who already holds an undergraduate degree may pursue an undergraduate certificate as a nondegree-seeking graduate student.
