Leadership in Business Certificate Program
The Leadership in Business certificate program is designed to help students understand the concept of leadership and cultivate their leadership identity. This program aims to develop a strong set of skills necessary for success in a dynamic workplace, including communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
Program Description
The certificate in leadership in business requires 15 credit hours with at least 12 upper division credits. To receive the certificate, students must complete all courses with a grade of "C" (2.00 on a scale of 4.00) or better.

Curriculum
The curriculum for the Leadership in Business certificate program includes:
- Leadership Core Courses:
- MGT 300 Principles of Management and Leadership or MGT 303 Honors Organizational Strategies, Leadership, and Behavior (3 Credit Hours, Minimum Grade: C)
- MGT 310 Collaborative Team Skills or MGT 411 Leading Organizations (3 Credit Hours, Minimum Grade: C)
- Leadership Development Electives:
- Choose from a list of approved courses, including COM 225 Public Speaking and Presentations, COM 259 Communication in Business and the Professions, and others (3 Credit Hours, Minimum Grade: C)
- Upper Division Leadership Development Electives:
- Choose from a list of approved courses, including COM 312 Communication, Conflict, and Negotiation, COM 319 Persuasion and Social Influence, and others (3 Credit Hours, Minimum Grade: C)
- Cultural Competency Elective:
- Choose from a list of approved courses, including JUS 438 Human Differences: Dilemmas of Justice, LES 380 Consumer Perspective of Business Law, and others (3 Credit Hours, Minimum Grade: C)
- Co-curricular Experience:
- Complete two co-curricular experiences, such as an approved internship, leadership position on an executive board, or ASU-affiliated study abroad program
Enrollment Requirements
This certificate is open only to undergraduate students in the W. P. Carey School of Business. A student pursuing an undergraduate certificate must be enrolled as a degree-seeking student at ASU. Undergraduate certificates are not awarded before the completion of an undergraduate degree.
Career Opportunities
Graduates who have combined the certificate in leadership in business with their major program of study may become more marketable to employers. Many decide to pursue employment in management, sales, and marketing. Advanced degrees or certifications may be required for academic or clinical positions.
