Program Overview


Program Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Economics and Business Economics is a three-year full-time program offered by the University of Groningen. The program aims to equip students with essential analytical, data, communication, and teamwork skills to tackle real-world issues from an economic perspective.


Program Structure

The program consists of three years, with the first year introducing students to fundamental concepts in economics and business economics. In the second year, students can choose from one of three profiles: Business Economics, Economics, or International Economics and Sustainable Development. The third year allows students to personalize their study by choosing a minor, studying abroad, or taking an internship.


Profiles

  • Business Economics: Focuses on the decision-making of companies, with a strong emphasis on finance and accounting.
  • Economics: Explores economic policy and economic theory, providing insights into topics like banking, fiscal and monetary policy, and economic development.
  • International Economics and Sustainable Development: Examines how globalization and economic growth impact businesses and societies, with a focus on international trade, technological innovation, and sustainability.

Study Abroad

Students have the option to study abroad for one semester in the third year, choosing from a wide range of international exchange partners in Europe, North America, Latin America, Australia, or Asia.


Entry Requirements

  • Dutch Diploma: VWO diploma with mathematics A or B.
  • International Diploma: Equivalent to the Dutch pre-university education (VWO), with mathematics as a standard/methods level subject.
  • Language Test: IELTS Academic overall score 6 (Speaking 6, Writing 5.5), TOEFL internet-based overall score 80 (Speaking 20, Writing 20), or equivalent.

Tuition Fees

  • EU/EEA Students: €2,601 (first year), €2,695 (subsequent years).
  • Non-EU/EEA Students: €13,500 (first year), €14,000 (subsequent years).

Job Prospects

Graduates can pursue careers in various fields, including financial or stock market analysis, policy advising, research, risk analysis, consulting, financial management, and more. The program also provides direct access to a wide range of master's programs.

The program is connected to business practice, economics, and society, with key research areas including the relation between job polarization and populism, environmental Kuznets curve, impact of migration on technological change, and more.

Study Support

The faculty offers various forms of study support, including mentor groups, lecturer-tutors, and study advisors, to help students succeed in their studies.


Binding Study Advice

A minimum of 45 EC in the first 12 months is required to continue with the degree program. Students will receive preliminary study advice in December and final advice at the end of the first year.
