Master's in Economics

The Master's in Economics at the University of Groningen is a one-year, full-time program that teaches students to develop an analytical mindset and use data to study and assess economic policies. The program focuses on key areas such as understanding global inequality, controlling inflation, environmental impact, healthcare solutions, and the gender pay gap.

Program Structure

The program consists of three core courses (microeconomics, macroeconomics, and empirical methods), a paper-writing course, and a selection of over 25 elective courses. Students can concentrate on topics such as competition and regulation, data science, development and sustainability, energy, finance and banking, health economics, or monetary policy.

Specializations

The program offers two topical profiles: Monetary Policy and Market Competition and Regulation. Students can also study abroad by taking one of the double degree programs with the Universidad de Santiago in Chile or with Fudan University in Shanghai, China.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission, students need to hold an academic Bachelor's or Master's degree from a research university in one of the following fields: Economics and Business Economics, Econometrics and Operations Research. The program also requires a language test, such as IELTS or TOEFL.

The tuition fees for the program are:

• non-EU/EEA students: € 21400 (full-time)
