Program Overview

Agricultural Science (BS): Online

Overview

A growing need exists for professionals with extensive knowledge and experience in the agricultural sciences. Students pursuing a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Agricultural Science study the dynamic aspects of the food and fiber industry and pursue two agricultural specializations.

Program Description

Students who major in Agricultural Science will:

  • develop skills for working independently and as part of a team, communicate effectively, solve problems, and understand basic business concepts.
  • pursue two of the following specializations: Animal Science, Agricultural Business Management, Agricultural Environmental Technology, Agroecology, Crop Science, Food Science, Horticultural Science, Poultry Science, Soil Science, and Feed Mill Management.
  • succeed as communicators, extension agents, and leaders in the agricultural industry.

Delivery Mode

The Agricultural Science – Online major is the same robust major and preparation for a career in agriculture as our Agricultural Science on-campus major. The difference is the delivery mode for coursework. All courses in the Agricultural Science – Online degree program are delivered at a distance via the NC State Moodle learning management system. Students complete their coursework synchronously (scheduled class meeting times) or asynchronously (independently scheduled time) online.

Program Goals

The Agricultural Science – Online major offers a pathway to a degree for students who are unable to relocate to Raleigh to conduct their studies. The distance delivery mode enhances access to education and professional development opportunities in agriculture and related sciences. The Agricultural Science – Online major promotes an integrated approach to problem solving that transforms lives and provides leadership for social, economic, and technological development across North Carolina and around the world.
