Course Content

Graduates of the computer science degree programme component in the Master of Education will have knowledge of practical, theoretical, technical, and applied computer science, as well as mathematical methods. They will be able to:

  • Independently plan, conduct, document, and present comprehensive projects of relevance to computer science
  • Analyze and structure real situations to make them accessible to processing with the help of computer science methods
  • Transfer topical and process concepts specific to computer science to other fields of application and use acquired computer science skills in other contexts
  • Adequately present sophisticated facts and situations both orally and in writing, and independently acquire computer science content
  • Analyze, assess, and explain computer science facts and situations in various applications and factual connections, as well as their societal effects
  • Characterize computer science as a scientific discipline and reflect on the societal function and image of computer science, as well as education in computer science
  • Recognize the central contribution of computer science education to general knowledge in an information society and have the ability to select suitable topics and special fields and prepare these for pupils in a didactically reduced manner
  • Be aware of suitable didactic environments that are conducive to studying topics and content and be able to independently learn the use of new tools and assess these tools for their suitability in Gymnasium level classrooms
  • Assess the longevity and transferability of central concepts in computer science and evaluate current developments and select and prepare these with regard to their relevance for teaching
  • Reflect on current development trends in computer science lessons and have a critical open mind with regard to new developments in computer science

Course Structure

The modules in the degree programme component in computer science comprise 18 credits for theory and methodology and 13 credits in specialized didactics. The Master's thesis is an optional module and is not included in the aforementioned credits. The blended module ‘From a research environment to the classroom’ comprises two parts, the seminar and the lesson preparation. The seminar should be taken first, with the lesson preparation component being taken a semester later. The subject’s supervision of the practical semester in a school is organized in the module ‘Observing and analyzing the classroom’.

Additional Information

  • The module handbook includes model curricula for the start of the program in both the winter and summer semesters.
  • Due to the very different combination of subjects, students are strongly recommended to attend a personal consultation upon application and/or enrollment to design a curriculum best suited to personal curricular circumstances.
