Introduction to the Master's Program in International Law

Course Content
The objective of the Master's degree program in International Law is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the current status and prospective trends in the field of international law in an era of worldwide interdependence. Students will examine the impact of globalization on sources and subjects of international law, including recent developments in international economic law, environmental protection, and governmental responsibility.

Course Structure
The program is offered on an annual basis, beginning each year in April. Courses are taught in Santiago de Chile from April through December and are divided into five modules:
- Module 1: International Law
- Module 2: International Trade: WTO and Intellectual Property
- Module 3: International Trade: Regional Economic Integration
- Module 4: International Investments
- Module 5: International Commercial Arbitration
From December through February, students will develop a draft of their Master's theses. In March, workshops and seminars take place in Heidelberg, Germany, where students will complete their Master's theses.
Program Outcomes
Following successful completion of the degree program, graduates will have the ability to:
- Demonstrate an awareness of the sources of international law
- Demonstrate a sound understanding of the basic principles of international law
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of how international legal principles are implemented into, and interact with, domestic law
- Engage in theoretical discussion of the basic principles of international law, with special emphasis on international commercial law, international investment law, and international arbitration, and apply these principles to specific cases.
