Course Content

The program allows students to develop specialist skills required for their chosen healthcare profession via training in a vocational college. Students draw on knowledge and understanding of their chosen healthcare role, including:


  • Nursing, with specialisation in acute inpatient care, paediatric care, long-term inpatient care/geriatric care
  • Physiotherapy
  • Speech and language therapy
  • Orthoptics
  • Laboratory assistance
  • Radiology assistance

The degree course enables students to further develop their specialist skills and general professional competencies, including:


  • Instrumental competence: the ability to apply knowledge and solve problems within the remit of the given healthcare profession
  • Interpersonal/communication competence: specialist argumentation and exchange with colleagues, other professionals
  • Systemic competence: the ability to collect and collate information, evaluate it, and learn independently

Course Structure

The degree programme is designed to be studied in combination with professional training, divided into two phases:


  • Phase 1 (Semesters 1 – 5): Students gain knowledge and skills fundamental for their future profession. Teaching at the University takes place on one afternoon per week and on one to a maximum of three Saturdays per semester.
  • Phase 2 (Semesters 6 – 8): Students have now completed their training and can enter employment. It is recommended that they take on a 30% role. Certain adaptations have been made to the degree programme in view of students’ employment, including limited contact hours and the possibility of partial recognition of employment as a work placement.
