Course Content
Graduates of the supplementary subject of physical education in the Master of Education will acquire a degree that enables them to transfer to state preparatory service for teaching the subject of physical education at Gymnasium secondary schools. Beyond this, they may enter other fields of activity in sports sciences, in particular those comprising mediating, supervising, and scientific work.

Graduates have skills in sports sciences, its specialized didactics, and in theory and practice of sports. They have:
- A basic, structured specialist knowledge that can be expanded upon in the context of movement and sports from a humanities, social, behavioral, or natural sciences perspective
- Broad skills for specific types of sports and across them that enable them to design teaching and learning processes in a manner that is adequate for the target group
- Integrating current results of school and lesson research, students blend specialized skills and abilities with concepts of research-based specialized didactics to critically reflect on their own profession-related actions
Course Structure
Studies of the supplementary subject of sports in the Master of Education, profile ‘teaching degree Gymnasium’ is only possible at the scope of a major subject. Coursework and examination components at a total scope of 120 credit points (CP) must be completed, including a Master’s thesis (scope: 15 CP). A total of 15 study modules must be completed, focusing on fundamental specialized knowledge, sports-comprehensive and -specific motor-skills knowledge, and research-based specialized didactics.
Module Overview
- Modules 1 to 5 convey fundamental specialized knowledge connected to movement and sports
- Modules 6 to 11 focus on sports-comprehensive and -specific motor-skills knowledge
- Modules 13 and 14 are designed as “blended modules” to enable students to blend specialized skills and abilities with concepts of research-based specialized didactics
- Module 15 comprises the oral degree examination in the degree program component sports and the completion of a Master’s thesis
