Sustainability Program Overview

The Sustainability program is designed to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to develop a background in sustainability-related skills, knowledge, and best practices. The program is open enrolment, which means there is no formal application or admission procedure.


Program Details

  • The program consists of four online courses: Principles of Sustainability, Practices for Sustainable Living, Practices for Sustainable Business, and Responsible Production and Consumption.
  • Each course is approximately 2.5 hours per week and can be completed in 3+ months.
  • The program is taught by industry experts and features instructor-led lectures, group discussions, and individual and small group practical application activities.
  • Upon successful completion of three out of four courses, students will receive a digital certificate of completion.

Admission Requirements

  • The program is open to anyone with an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, or those who are deemed mature students.
  • Students must have knowledge and skills with general computer applications, such as keyboarding, file management, video conferencing, and word processing.
  • If English is not the student's native language, they must meet McMaster University's English proficiency requirements.

Course Schedule

  • The course schedule is subject to change, but typically includes:
    • Principles of Sustainability (SUS 101): $310.00, 6-8 hours of study per week
    • Practices for Sustainable Living (SUS 102): $310.00, 6-8 hours of study per week
    • Practices for Sustainable Business (SUS 103): $310.00, 6-8 hours of study per week
    • Responsible Production and Consumption (SUS 104): $310.00, 6-8 hours of study per week
