Program Overview
Economics BSc
The Economics BSc course at the University of Sheffield allows students to specialise in methodological modules, learn rigorous quantitative and analytical skills, and apply this knowledge to analyse economic issues and policy.
Course Description
This course provides a broad grounding in economic theory and analysis, guiding students through the pathway of their choice. Students will develop key skills in data analysis, learn to apply theoretical and quantitative skills to real-world economic problems, and have the opportunity to specialise in their area of interest.
Modules
The course structure includes:
- First year: Core modules in Microeconomic Analysis and Policy, Macroeconomic Analysis and Policy, Statistical Methods for Economics, Mathematical Methods for Economics 2, and Applied Data Analysis in Economics.
- Second year: Core modules in Intermediate Microeconomics, Intermediate Macroeconomics, Econometrics, and Applied Econometrics, along with optional modules.
- Final year: Core modules, including an Economics UG Dissertation, and a range of methodological and applied optional modules.

Learning and Assessment
The course provides a varied and interactive learning experience, including lectures, seminars, workshops, tutorials, and computer labs. Assessment is primarily exam-based, with written coursework, computer-based assignments, research projects, presentations, and reports also used to evaluate student performance.
Entry Requirements
The standard offer for this course is AAB at A Level, including Maths. Alternative qualifications, such as International Baccalaureate, BTEC Extended Diploma, and Access to HE Diploma, are also accepted.
Graduate Careers
Graduates of the Economics BSc course have gone on to work in a variety of fields, including banking, insurance, accountancy, sales and marketing, and retail management. Some have also pursued further study in economics at the postgraduate level.
