Program Overview
Mechatronic and Robotic Engineering MEng
The Mechatronic and Robotic Engineering MEng course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the core principles of mechatronics and robotics, from mathematics, computing, and control to electronics and intelligent systems. Through hands-on projects using 3D CAD, 3D printing, laser cutting, and more in the iForge makerspace, students will put theory into practice.
Course Description
This integrated master's degree combines mechanical design, computing, electronics, and control to prepare students for a career at the cutting edge of robotics and automation. Informed by world-leading research and designed in collaboration with industry partners, the program blends theory with hands-on learning. Students will use industry-standard equipment and explore real-world applications in robotics, industrial control, and advanced manufacturing.
Modules
The course structure includes:
- First year: Core modules such as Group Project and Engineering Skills, Engineering system modelling and analysis, Analysis tools for mechatronics, computer engineering and AI, Electric and Magnetic Circuits, and Analogue and Digital Electronics.
- Second year: Modules include Design Project, Control, communications and mathematics, Embedded System Engineering, Robot principles, and Robot Statics and Dynamics.
- Third year: Students will undertake a practical project and choose a specialization that aligns with their interests and career goals, with options including Mechatronics & Robotics and Control.
- Fourth year: Students will deepen their expertise with a major research project and advanced modules in their chosen specialization.
Learning and Assessment
Students will learn through a combination of lectures, practical labs and tutorials, and independent study. Assessment will be by a combination of exams and tests, coursework, and practical work.
Entry Requirements
The standard offer for this course is AAA at A Level, including Maths and a science. Alternative qualifications and routes for mature students are also available.
