Advanced Clinical Practice (Paediatrics) MMedSci
The School of Allied Health Professions, Pharmacy, Nursing and Midwifery, Faculty of Health, offers a Master of Medical Science in Advanced Clinical Practice (Paediatrics). This program is designed for registered nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, and related healthcare practitioners within pediatrics who want to work at an advanced level of clinical practice.
Course Description
This course provides training for expanded primary and secondary care roles that focus on babies, children, and young people. It covers all four pillars of advanced practice: clinical practice, leadership and management, education, and research. Students will gain advanced skills in anatomy, history taking, and clinical examination, develop their understanding of evidence-based practice, and learn how to deal with complex clinical situations and improve patient services.

Duration and Attendance
The program is 3 years, part-time.
Teaching and Assessment
Students will learn through lectures, skills workshops, simulations, seminars, case-based discussions, supervised clinical practice, tripartite reviews, and reflection. Assessment will be through case presentations, reports, examinations (including objective structured clinical exams), presentations, essays, and a specialist electronic portfolio.

Graduates from this course can work as advanced clinical practitioners, specializing in pediatrics. They are experienced and knowledgeable healthcare professionals who have expanded their scope of practice to better meet the needs of the patients in their care.

The School of Allied Health Professions, Nursing and Midwifery brings together expertise from across human communication sciences, nursing, midwifery, pharmacy, and orthoptics. Entry Requirements
- Minimum 2:2 undergraduate honors degree in a health discipline (for example, nursing, midwifery, pharmacy, physiotherapy, paramedic science).
- Minimum of a grade 4/C in GCSE English Language and Maths or equivalent.
- IELTS 7 (with 6.5 in writing and 7 in each other component) for international students.
- Applicants must be healthcare professionals registered with an appropriate professional body.
- Applicants must have been working in the pathway-specific area for a minimum of three years and hold a current relevant employment contract in the pathway-specific setting for the duration of the program.
Fees and Funding
- Home (2026 annual fee): £4,226 each year
- Overseas (2026 annual fee): £8,773 each year
- Applicants may be eligible for funding from NHS England via the regional faculties for advancing practice.
- £3,000 scholarships for international students.
- Save up to £2,500 on course fees for Sheffield graduates.
