Empirische Bildungsforschung und Pädagogische Psychologie - Master

The Master's program in Empirische Bildungsforschung und Pädagogische Psychologie is offered by the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences. The program leads to a Master's degree and has restricted admission in the first and higher semesters. The regular duration of studies is four semesters, and a combination subject is not required.


Admission Criteria

  • The program is restricted, with 20 study places available per year.
  • The application process includes a written application, participation in an online study counseling test (Self-Assessment), and a personal selection interview.
  • The Self-Assessment must be completed before the written application, and selection interviews typically take place at the end of June or early July in Tübingen.
  • Applicants will receive a separate invitation to the selection interviews.

Requirements for Studies

To be admitted to the program, applicants must meet the following requirements:


  • A Bachelor's degree in Empirische Bildungsforschung und Pädagogische Psychologie, Psychology (polyvalent Bachelor's program), Psychology with a focus on teaching and learning, Empirische Bildungsforschung, or an equivalent degree in a comparable field.
  • A Bachelor's grade of 2.5 or better.
  • Proof of at least 9 ECTS in Quantitative Methods/Statistics.
  • Participation in the Self-Assessment for the Master EBPP (online study counseling test).

Language Requirements

The language of instruction in the Master's program is German. Since a large part of the reading material in the field of Pädagogische Psychologie is written in English, English language proficiency at the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference (GER) is expected. Some curricular events may be held in English, and the Master's thesis can also be written in English.

Program Structure

The program includes three project seminars where students work on their own research projects under supervision. These seminars enable students to gain hands-on experience with "real" research and to collect first experiences in scientific work.


Study Abroad

Students may choose to spend some time abroad as part of the program. Planning for this should start 12 to 18 months before departure.

A doctorate is possible after completing the Master's program, for example, within the structured program of the "LEAD Graduate School & Research Network". Students who wish to pursue a doctorate at the University of Tübingen can use their Master's thesis as a preliminary work for the dissertation.
