This study program is admission-free, provided you meet the admission requirements, i.e., no application is necessary. You can enroll directly in this study program. There is no selection process.


Which requirements must I meet for studies?

The requirement for studying at the University of Tübingen is the general higher education entrance qualification, usually the Abitur, or another higher education entrance qualification, e.g., the Deltaprüfung for prospective students with a university of applied sciences entrance qualification or a subject-specific higher education entrance qualification. Applicants with foreign school diplomas should contact the department for advising and admission of international students.


In Baden-Württemberg, there is an obligation to provide proof of participation in a study orientation process when enrolling in a undergraduate program.


You should also have an interest in digital media and their impact on people.


Which languages must I know?

The language of study and examination is German. Individual courses may be conducted in English. Good English skills are expected for literature studies. However, formal proof of English skills is not required. International students are expected to have German language skills equivalent to DSH-2 (Testdaf 4).

The BSc Media Informatics is a "mono-bachelor," meaning the study is in one scientific field. Since it is an interdisciplinary study program, no additional minor subject is required. Specializations are possible in the participating disciplines.

The program provides a solid education in computer science with courses from the areas of practical, technical, and theoretical computer science, as well as mathematics. Mandatory media informatics courses include User Interface Design, Internet Technologies, Fundamentals of Multimedia Technology, Image Processing, and Computer Graphics. Additionally, the program includes basics of media science, a practical, and an in-depth media science course. The content ranges from social topics such as media reception and media history to the practical implementation of content in texts, films, or radio contributions.

The Media Informatics program in Tübingen is characterized by a high degree of freedom, allowing for individual specialization in one of the four core areas:

Additionally, the program includes basics of media science, a practical, and an in-depth media science course. From the fourth semester onwards, there is the possibility to specialize in areas according to your own interests. Possible areas of specialization are the four core areas of Human-Computer Interaction, Web Development, Multimedia Technology, and Computer Graphics/Image Processing, as well as cross-disciplinary topics such as the development of computer games.
