Requirements and Application

  • On what criteria are applicants selected?: This study program is admission-free, meaning you will receive a study place if you meet the admission requirements. However, an application is still required to check these prerequisites. There is no selection process.
  • Which requirements must I meet for studies?: The study of an additional subject - in addition to the two-subject study of the Bachelor's degree program in teaching at a grammar school with an academic degree Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) - is designed as a supplementary master's program. Therefore, this study can only be started after the successful completion of the B.Ed. The students can, however, voluntarily and non-bindingly provide additional study services (advance services extension subject) in a third subject as part of the B.Ed., which can later be fully credited in the Master's program extension subject. The study consists solely of the study of this subject and does not contain any further educational science components.
  • Which languages must I know?: The language of study and examination is German. Individual courses may be conducted in English. Good English language skills are expected for literature studies. Therefore, English language skills are required. However, formal proof of English language skills is not required. German language skills in the amount of DSH-2 (TestDaF4) are required for foreign students.

  • Which topics are dealt with in the program?: The study program focuses on providing students with networked competencies in technical sciences and the four natural sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Physical Geography), as well as in subject practice, subject didactics, and school practice. Comprehensive knowledge and skills in the mentioned areas of the first phase of teacher training are the basis for school teaching, which requires the use of acquired competencies in a student-oriented manner.
  • What is special about the Tübingen program?: The study program is organized by the departments of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and (Physical) Geography of the Eberhard Karls University and is carried out in cooperation with the Esslingen and Rottenburg universities, as well as with the participation of industrial companies, such as Robert Bosch GmbH. The extension subject NwT can be studied in the main subject scope or minor subject scope.
