Which Topics Are Dealt With in the Program?
The consecutive Master's program in Psychology with a focus on Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy (KliPP) implements the requirements for Master's programs according to the Psychotherapist Approval Act (PsychThApprO). The goal is to optimally prepare students for a career in practical psychotherapeutic, pedagogical-psychological, and neuropsychological work with patients of all ages. To achieve this, a high level of practical relevance is at the forefront, in addition to in-depth methodological training. This is strengthened by the professional qualifying activities (BQT II and III), as students have the opportunity to gain practical experience in relevant psychotherapeutic and neuropsychological areas. Cooperations with psychotherapeutic institutions guarantee the quality and access to suitable internship positions. Furthermore, practice-oriented seminars, exercises, and the practice-accompanying self-reflection complement the practice-oriented orientation.
What Is Special About the Tübingen Program?
A special feature of the Tübingen Master's program is the focus on cognitive psychology. Cognitive psychology forms the connecting element of the basic and applied disciplines and is based on a broad methodological spectrum. The research focuses of the basic area are perception, language, action planning, number processing, time cognition, as well as social communication and interaction processes and knowledge media in education, work, and leisure. The diverse research activities of the Tübingen Psychology departments are embedded in an interdisciplinary research environment (e.g., Hertie Institute for Clinical Brain Research, Leibniz Institute for Knowledge Media, Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics, Collaborative Research Center Bedeutungskonstitution).
How Is the Program Structured?
The Master's program in Psychology with a focus on Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy (KliPP) builds on the contents of the polyvalent Bachelor's program in Psychology. The program has a scope of 120 ECTS and includes various forms of events (lectures, practical courses, (practice-oriented) seminar formats, research practical courses). In the modules, knowledge is acquired and deepened in the areas of cognitive psychology, research methodology, diagnostics and assessment, theory of disorders and procedures, applied psychotherapy, and documentation in psychotherapy.
Career Prospects
The Master's program leads to a professionally qualifying degree (Master of Science) in Psychology. With the focus on Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy, the degree qualifies for admission to the state approval examination and the subsequent further training as a specialist psychotherapist. This makes the Master's degree the basis for a professional career in the entire range of clinical-therapeutic, pedagogical-psychological, and neuropsychological professions. Furthermore, the Master's degree opens up the possibility of pursuing an academic career or a further doctoral program. By taking into account the quality criteria of the German Psychological Society (DGPs) for the Psychology Master's program, the degree also enables scientific and practical work outside of clinical psychology and psychotherapy.
