Program Overview
MA Directing for Film and Television Production
The MA Directing for Film and Television Production is a one-year full-time course that equips students with the skills and knowledge to pursue a career in film and television. The course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the directing process, from script to screen.
Overview
The course is industry-recognized by ScreenSkills, the industry-led skills body for the UK's screen-based industries, and carries the ScreenSkills Select quality-mark. This accreditation indicates that the course is best suited to prepare students for a career in the screen industries. The course is also part of the BAFTA albert Education Partnership, which introduces students to the sustainability knowledge they need when joining the production workforce.
Course Content
The course covers a range of topics, including:
- Directing for single-camera film and television productions
- Script development, from pitching and script drafting to visualisation tools such as storyboards and concept art
- Working with actors and crew
- Postproduction methods
- The business of television and film production

- Directing for Film & Television II
- Group Projects
- Individual Project
- Screenwriting
Final Project
The course culminates in the design and development of an individual piece of work and accompanying report. Students can choose from two different types of individual project:
- A production project that involves creating a short film or pilot television episode
- An individual research project focusing on a specific area related directly to the student's chosen specialism

The annual tuition fees for 2026/27 are:
- UK (home): £13,900
