Program Overview
MSc Sound for Film and Television Production
The MSc Sound for Film and Television Production is a postgraduate program designed to prepare students for a career as professional sound designers in the film and television industry. The program is offered by the School of Arts and Creative Technologies at the University of York.
Overview
The program focuses on the technical aspects of sound production and design, with an emphasis on craft skill, creativity, and critical thought. Students will gain hands-on experience with industry-standard facilities and software, including ProTools, Media Composer, and Adobe Creative Suite. Course Content

Final Project
The final project is an individual, technically-focused extended research project. Students can choose from two different types of projects:
- A production project that involves creating a short film or pilot television episode, along with a written production report.
- An individual research project focusing on a specific area related to sound design.

Fees and Funding
The annual tuition fees for the program are:
- £13,900 for UK (home) students
- £32,900 for international and EU students
There are also funding opportunities available, including UK government Masters loans, funding for UK students, and funding for international students.
Entry Requirements
The program requires a 2:2 or equivalent undergraduate degree, with some experience of audio media production either gained through an undergraduate degree or through professional practice. International students may need to provide evidence of their English language ability, with a minimum IELTS score of 6.5.
