Certificate in Clinical Engineering
The Certificate in Clinical Engineering is a 100% online program designed to enhance the number of qualified and trained clinical service engineers for rural Missouri. This program is a result of the University of Missouri's partnership with healthcare and medical technology companies to create an online credentialing program that can be accessed from multiple pathways.
Program Overview
The Clinical Service Engineering online certificate program is designed to provide a mix of formal technical training and customer-focused training, incorporating medical imaging technology expertise, healthcare business acumen, customer relationship management, and specific imaging equipment training. The program can be accessed in two different platforms: as a for-credit, stand-alone certificate through the MU College of Engineering, or as a noncredit certificate program offered through MU Extension.
Eligibility
- Noncredit certificate seekers must have previously completed:
- Calculus I, calculus-based Physics I, and algebra or calculus-based Physics II (or equivalents)
- Or must successfully complete Math 1400 prior to enrolling.
- Noncredit certificate eligibility:
- Military or work experience in advanced electronics
- Associate degree in electronics or a similar field
- Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM field, such as Physics or Mathematics
- Working engineers
- For-credit certificate eligibility:
- Certificate seekers must meet the admissions standards for the University of Missouri or be currently enrolled students within the University of Missouri.
Financial Aid
- Financial aid can be applied to the for-credit undergraduate certificate.
- Traditional financial aid is not available for the noncredit pathway. However, there are two discounts available:
- 10% discount for military personnel, veterans, and their families (qualified dependents)
- 10% discount for graduates of Missouri's public, regionally accredited community college who are Missouri residents
- The noncredit pathway is eligible for the Fast Track Workforce Incentive Grant through the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development.
Course Details
- There are four core classes required for both the for-credit or noncredit tracks. These 8-week courses must be taken in order.
- Note: Certificate seekers enrolled in the for-credit certificate will take two additional elective courses.
- Course 1: Engineering in Medical Imaging 1: Non-Ionizing Techniques (3 credits)
- Course 2: Engineering in Medical Imaging 2: Ionizing Techniques (3 credits)
- Course 3: Medical Image Data Collection and Management (3 credits)
- Course 4: Applications for Clinical Engineering (3 credits)
- Math 1400 is available for noncredit certificate seekers who have not completed the required math prerequisites.
