Program Overview

Certificate in Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care

The Certificate in Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care is a 100% online certificate program that provides valuable knowledge and skills for those working in the area of small animal emergency and critical care.

Program Description

This certificate program covers topics such as managing patients with rapidly deteriorating medical and surgical illnesses, major trauma, and life-threatening disease, as well as reviewing general principles of toxicology and the toxic responses of specific target organs/systems.

Pathways

The online, stand-alone, noncredit certificate in Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care takes eight months to complete. It is a great opportunity for Veterinary Technicians with their AA or BS degree and Veterinarians to gain advanced skills in emergency and critical care for small animals. Individuals will receive continuing education hours for each course completed.

  • Current degree-seeking Mizzou students are not eligible for the noncredit certificate.
    • Current Mizzou students should speak to their academic advisor about for-credit options.
  • The noncredit certificate is convertible to academic credit to get on a pathway towards Mizzou’s Undergraduate Certificate in Veterinary Sciences or BS degree in Veterinary Technology.

Prerequisites

As this certificate program is for continuing education, all certificate seekers must be current veterinary technicians or veterinarians. They must already have an AAS or BS in Veterinary Technology or a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD).
