Programme Structure
The programme consists of two years of MRes study, followed by three years of PhD study. The MRes component includes taught courses, research methods, and a supervised research paper. The PhD component involves original research, thesis development, and a viva oral examination.
Year 1
- Take the first of two seminar courses (MG512 or MG520) covering Consumer Behaviour and Quantitative Modelling
- Attend the A Social Sciences Perspective of Academic Research in Management seminar
- Participate in Research Practicums with different faculty members
- Choose one of the following specialist courses:
- MG512: Marketing I: Consumer Behaviour and Quantitative Modelling
- MG520: Marketing II: Consumer Behaviour and Quantitative Modelling
- Choose further courses in the Department of Methodology, Department of Economics, or alternative courses suited to research interests
Year 2
- Take the second of the specialist courses (MG512 or MG520)
- Continue to take additional methodology or economics taught courses depending on research interests
- Complete a supervised research paper in the field of interest
- Participate in Research Practicums with faculty members
Year 3
- Upgrade to PhD candidate (subject to satisfactory progress)
- Work on developing the PhD thesis proposal and continue with research
Years 4 and 5
- Focus on PhD thesis, research, and writing papers for presentation at conferences and publication
- Participate in Faculty Group seminars
- Present the final year plan, outlining the timetable to completion and submission of the thesis
Entry Requirements
- Upper second class honours (2:1) degree in any discipline, or the equivalent
- GRE/GMAT requirement: The test gives an indication of aptitude for the programme, but there is no specific overall score required
- English language requirements: Higher
