Program Overview

MSc Financial Mathematics

The MSc Financial Mathematics programme applies advanced mathematics to real-world financial applications. Students will study the mathematical theories that drive financial markets and learn the quantitative methodologies and computational tools essential in investment banking and other financial careers.

Introduction

This programme covers a broad variety of topics in financial mathematics, including credit risk theory, stochastic processes, and computational methods in finance. Students can also choose from options in areas such as derivatives modelling, financial risk analysis, time series analysis, portfolio management, and international finance.

Entry Requirements

• Upper second class honours (2:1) degree or equivalent in a mathematically-based subject, or a scientific, engineering, or social science subject with an excellent mathematics background.
• English language requirements: Standard.

Fees and Funding

• Home student fee (2026/27): £39,900
• Overseas student fee (2026/27): £39,900
• Fee reduction: Students who completed undergraduate study at LSE and are beginning taught graduate study at the School are eligible for a fee reduction of around 10 per cent of the fee.
• Scholarships, bursaries, and loans are available, including the Graduate Support Scheme and ESRC funding.

Learning and Assessment

• Teaching methods include lectures, classes, seminars, and workshops.
• Academic support includes an academic mentor, the Learning Lab, and the Disability and Mental Health Service.
• Assessment includes formative coursework and summative assessment, which may be conducted during the course or by final examination at the end of the course.
