The Undergraduate Certificate in Production Engineering is designed for students interested in optimizing manufacturing processes and improving efficiency in production environments. This program prepares students for careers in industries such as automotive, aerospace, electronics, and consumer goods, with roles in production management, quality control, supply chain optimization, and process design.

Program Details

• The Production Engineering Certificate (PEC) provides students with unique hands-on experience, development of problem-solving skills, and knowledge integration using Lean thinking principles.
• The program aims to enhance students' learning in capstone senior design projects, basics of automotive productions processes, teamwork, principles of Lean manufacturing, and applications to automotive production engineering.
• Design projects within the core courses are developed through proposals from industry and engineering organizations.
• The elective courses include operation-based aspects vitally important in automotive manufacturing, such as automotive painting, body welding, and automotive powertrain.
• Four different academic departments participate in PEC: Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, Chemical & Materials Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, and Biosystems & Agricultural Engineering.

• The program is offered by the Stanley and Karen Pigman College of Engineering.
• The program consists of 12 credit hours.
• The credential awarded is an Undergraduate Certificate.

• Prospective students: Certificates are declared once you are a current University of Kentucky student.
• Current students: You can add this certificate in myUK GPS by requesting a major/minor/certificate change.

Accelerated Pathway

• This program is part of the Accelerated Master's Pathways program, which can save you time and money with dual credit hours if you plan to obtain a master's degree.

Program Participation

• The program is designed to enhance students' learning and provide them with hands-on experience in production engineering.
• Students will learn how to integrate their knowledge by Lean thinking and achieve their team goal by effectively working together.
