The Scuola di Specializzazione in Beni Musicali (School of Specialization in Musical Heritage) is an inter-university program between the University of Bologna, the University of Pavia, and the University of Rome "La Sapienza." It aims to train high-profile professionals in the protection, management, and enhancement of musical heritage.
Objectives
The program's primary objectives are to:
- Form specialists with a high professional profile in the sector of musical heritage protection, management, and valorization.
- Train highly qualified professionals to operate in the Italian territory, which boasts an extensive musical documentation, one of the richest in the world.
- Enable specialists to perform functions such as technical consultants for historical musical assets, both material and immaterial, and to oversee their maintenance, safeguarding, and restoration.

The program is affiliated with the Dipartimento di Beni Culturali (Department of Cultural Heritage).
Places and Scholarships
The program offers 25 places and 2 scholarships (ex L. 398/89).
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the program, candidates must:
- Hold a second-cycle degree (300 CFU) or an equivalent qualification.
- Pass a competitive examination, which includes exams and evaluation of titles.
- Meet specific requirements, such as holding a degree in Musicology and Musical Heritage, Archival Science and Librarianship, or other relevant fields.
Admission Process
The admission process involves a competitive examination, which includes:
- A written exam.
- An oral exam, scheduled for November 17, 2025, at the Department of Cultural Heritage in Ravenna.
- Evaluation of titles and qualifications.
Credits and Duration
The program lasts two academic years and requires the acquisition of 120 CFU (University Credits). The training path is organized into professionalizing areas that guarantee highly specialized preparation in the sectors of musical heritage protection, management, and valorization.
Frequency and Attendance
Attendance is mandatory.
Final Examination
The program concludes with a final examination, which includes a thesis defense and an evaluation of the student's overall performance.

The program includes internships and stages (750 hours, equivalent to 30 credits) to be carried out at national institutions (superintendences, assessorates, museums, libraries, archives, etc.) under the tutorship of a specialist in the sector.
