Introduction to the Insurance, Financial and Actuarial Analysis Programme
The Insurance, Financial and Actuarial Analysis (IFAA) programme under the CUHK Business School is recognized by the Society of Actuaries in the US as the Center of Actuarial Excellence. This is the highest award bestowed upon an actuarial programme, and so far only 38 world-renowned universities worldwide have received such recognition.
Programme Overview
On behalf of the Department of Finance, we welcome you to the Insurance, Financial and Actuarial Analysis Programme website. Here you can get a glimpse of the teaching and students’ activities of our programme. We have 4 full-time academically and professionally qualified teaching staff, and we have already produced 846 graduates as of June 2023, most of which are working in insurance companies as actuaries, analysts in banks and consultants in consulting and accounting firms.
Actuarial science is a multi-disciplinary subject that involves general business, finance, mathematics, and statistics. It is most suitable for students who wish to apply their knowledge in mathematics into business, particularly in the risk management of products related to mortality, casualty, and investment risk. It is constantly evolving due to the development of new investment and insurance products of the rapidly-changing business world as well as the advancement in risk management. It contributes greatly to the stability of the financial security system in our society.
Programme Goals
Our goal is to prepare students for careers as actuaries. Our courses are tailor-made to help students master the material included in professional examinations administered by the Society of Actuaries in the United States.
Programme Features
- We do not train our students to be math freaks. Instead, we would like to nurture young generations to be open-minded and creative business professionals.
- Most of our students participate in activities organized by our school of business and engage in half-year or full-year exchange apart from studying and working as interns, making their student life fulfilling and international.
