Program Overview
Introduction to the Professional Certificate Programme
The Faculty of Education and the Hong Kong Institute of Educational Research of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong Extra-curricular Activities Masters’ Association, collaborate in offering the one-year Professional Certificate Programme in Management of Student Activities in Primary and Secondary Schools. This programme provides professional development to participants by strengthening their foundation of theories in student activities and offering practicum opportunities to enhance their technical skills.
Objectives
The programme is designed with the following objectives:
- Examine and consider fundamental learning theories and professional knowledge concerning student activities.
- Assist participants in developing the necessary practical skills, management techniques, and curriculum development strategies for organizing student activities.
- Provide opportunities for participants to take part in experiential learning activities.
- Help participants reflect on recent practice through case studies.
- Nurture a life-wide learning culture and a life-long learning attitude.
Expected Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this programme, the participants are expected to:
- Master the fundamental learning theories and knowledge concerning student activities.
- Master the necessary practical skills, management techniques, and curriculum development strategies for organizing student activities.
- Gain field experience in the experiential learning activities of the programme.
- Become a reflexive practitioner of student activities.
- Engage in life-wide and life-long learning.
Teaching Personnel
The programme is led by:
- Programme Co-Directors: Professor YIN Hong-biao and Dr. TSANG Wing Hong
- Programme Coordinators: Dr. LEUNG Wai Ying and Mr. TAM Chi Chung
- Teaching Personnel: Includes full-time and part-time lecturers/instructors of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, front-line personnel of extra-curricular activities of primary/secondary schools, and relevant professionals.
Target Participants
The programme is designed for serving teachers in primary or secondary schools who are responsible for or involved in organizing and managing student activities, and holders of teacher qualification and a Bachelor's degree from a recognized university.
Mode of Delivery
The programme adopts a variety of teaching activities, including lectures, camps, visits, interactive sharing sessions, case studies, practicum sessions, and experiential learning.
Tuition Fee
The tuition fee is HK$39,900, including fees for practicum activities. Fees paid are not refundable or transferable.
Programme and Graduation Requirements
To qualify for the award of the Professional Certificate, participants must:
- Complete a total of four compulsory modules and one elective module.
- Attend no less than 70% of each required module.
- Complete all written assignments with an average grade of C or above.
Schedule of Meetings
The study period is from November 2025 to June 2026, with sessions taking place on evenings from Monday to Friday, and some sessions on Saturdays or school holidays.
