Program Overview


Introduction to the Bachelor of Nursing Programme

The Bachelor of Nursing (BNurs) programme is a five-year full-time credit-based honours programme leading to the award of a Bachelor of Nursing degree from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. The programme prepares students for registration as general registered nurses with the Nursing Council of Hong Kong.


Programme Description

The main subjects of study include biological and behavioural sciences, health promotion and maintenance, nursing practice and theory, nursing research, and information technology. Students also gain experience in the care of clients in both hospital and community settings.


Programme Features

  • Integrated Theoretical & Experiential Learning: Extensive opportunities for practising in a wide variety of hospital and community settings are provided for students to apply their nursing knowledge under the supervision of School lecturers and over 2,200 clinical mentors.
  • Subsidised Overseas Exchange: The overseas exchange programme is subsidised by the School, supporting students to visit renowned universities and hospitals in mainland China, UK, USA, Australia, Japan, South Korea, etc.
  • Unique Schemes to Prepare Talents in Research: Students enrolled in the Guided Research Scheme and Pre-PhD Preparation Scheme will undertake courses at postgraduate level in Summer Term to build up their capacities for academic research.
  • A Wide Range of Elective Courses Offered: An introductory briefing of the elective courses will be provided to help students in elective course selection according to their preferences and interests.

Admission Requirements

JUPAS Applicants

  • Level 3 in Chinese Language and English Language.
  • Level 2 in Mathematics (Compulsory Part).
  • “Attained” in Citizenship and Social Development.
  • Level 3 in two electives (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics are preferred subjects, among which the subject with the best score will be given heavier weighting).

Non-JUPAS Applicants

  • GCE-AL/International-AL (passes 3AL/2AL+2AS in one sitting).
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma.
  • Other high school qualifications: A recognised non-local qualification which qualifies them for admission to a university in the country/region where such qualification is originated.
  • Post-secondary qualifications.

Career Prospect

Most graduates secured nursing jobs in hospitals as they completed the programme. According to the 2020/21 graduate survey, 94.4% of recent graduates are working in public hospitals, while 4.7% are working in private settings. They are dispersed in different specialties.
