Program Overview

CUHK Medicine MBChB Programme (O&G)

The undergraduate training in O&G is scheduled for the 5th year in the 6-year curriculum. During the 5th year, medical students are divided into four major groups and rotate to study the following modules:

  • O&G
  • Psychiatry
  • Paediatrics
  • Family and Community Medicine Each module will last for 9 weeks.

O&G Module

In the O&G module, medical students will take 4 weeks in learning obstetrics and 4 weeks in gynaecology. The last week is for revision and examination. The main teaching venue is Prince of Wales Hospital, but students may have the opportunity to attend other O&G units in various hospitals.

Teaching and Awards

Our department is dedicated to delivering high-quality medical education. Our courses and teachers have been highly appreciated by the medical students in the past few years. Several professors from our department have been awarded ‘The Best Teacher of the Year’ by the Faculty of Medicine.

Commitment to Excellence

We are committed to nurturing medical students with the highest standards of professionalism and ethics. In the annual White Coat Inauguration Ceremony, medical freshmen are donned with white coats which signify the start of their medical journey. They will also take an oath and commit to upholding the highest standards of being doctors to serve the patients and the community.

Awards and Recognition

Teachers’ and Students’ Awards Presentation Ceremony is an important annual event in the Faculty of Medicine. Teachers of the Year Awards are presented to professors of each programme. Our warmest congratulations go to the O&G teachers.

  • Dr. Angel Kwan (O&G, PWH) is awarded the ‘Medical Officer’s Teaching Awards (MBChB Year 6)’ for the academic years.
  • Dr. Grace Kong is awarded ‘The Best Teacher of the Year’ (Medical Year 5) by the Faculty of Medicine CUHK.
  • Professor Yvonne Cheng is awarded the ‘The Best Teacher of the Year’ for the academic years.

Clinical Experience

Medical students will enjoy the precious opportunities of attending to natural childbirth or operative delivery in the labour ward, as well as various kinds of gynaecological surgeries. In the “Students’ Forum”, students will have the valuable opportunity to present interesting cases, participate in role plays or in debates, through which they will learn in depth about interesting and controversial issues in O&G, as well as in communication skills.

Elective Training

Students who are interested in choosing O&G as their future career path may choose O&G as their elective training at the end of Year 5. They may spend 4 to 6 weeks in an O&G unit in Hong Kong or overseas recommended by the professors.

Student Recognition

A distinguished student is awarded ‘The Hong Kong College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists scholarship’ for the academic year.
