Program Overview

The Professional Doctorate in Practical Theology is a part-time research-based program offered in collaboration with the Cambridge Theological Federation (CTF) and Anglia Ruskin University (ARU). The degree is awarded by Anglia Ruskin University.


Program Structure

  • The program is based on clinical pastoral experience and includes systematic research.
  • Students attend classes in the UK for one to two weeks each year, including the National Professional Doctorate Summer School and research training at ARU and CTF in Cambridge.
  • Students can spend three months in Cambridge in the first year attending research seminars.
  • The Hong Kong-based supervisor and learning resources, such as the library, are provided by the Chinese University of Hong Kong's Chung Chi College.

Admission Requirements

  • Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree and a Master of Divinity or a Master of Theology degree (or equivalent qualifications).
  • Relevant professional recognition and experience are required.
  • English language requirements: IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in all categories (listening, writing, speaking, and reading) or equivalent English language proficiency.

Program Details

  • The program is exempt from the Non-local Higher and Professional Education (Regulation) Ordinance.
  • Employers may recognize the qualification at their discretion.
