Program Overview

The Advanced Certificate Programme in Supporting Children and Adolescents with Special Educational Needs is designed to provide comprehensive training in supporting children and adolescents with special educational needs. The program aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to support students with diverse needs, including those with physical, emotional, and learning disabilities.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for the program, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

1. Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE): Five subjects at Level 2, including Chinese Language and English Language, or equivalent qualifications.
2. Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE): One subject or two subjects at Advanced Supplementary Level, and five subjects at Level 2 in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), including Chinese Language and English Language at Level 2/E, or equivalent qualifications.
3. Graduates of the "Special Educational Needs Diploma Programme" or equivalent qualifications.
4. Mature Applicants: Aged 21 or above, with at least three years of relevant work experience.

Program Objectives

The program aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the needs of children and adolescents with special educational needs. The program focuses on the development of skills and knowledge in areas such as educational psychology, social work, speech therapy, music therapy, and art therapy.

Program Structure

The program consists of five modules, which can be completed within 12 months on a part-time basis. The modules are:

1. Module 1: Understanding the Growth Needs of Students with Special Educational Needs through Identification and Assessment (30 hours)
2. Module 2: Supporting Students with Special Educational Needs through Music and Art Strategies (30 hours)
3. Module 3: Speech Therapy and Multidisciplinary Intervention Strategies for Students with Special Educational Needs (30 hours)
4. Module 4: Supporting Students with Special Educational Needs through Inclusive Education (15 hours)
5. Module 5: Specialized Study of Practical Skills for Supporting Students with Special Educational Needs (15 hours)

Teaching Mode

The program is taught in a face-to-face mode, with one three-hour class per week.

Assessment Method

Students who meet the attendance requirement and pass the assessment for each module will be awarded the "Advanced Certificate in Supporting Children and Adolescents with Special Educational Needs."

Attendance Requirement

Students must attend at least 70% of the classes for each module.

Enrollment

Enrollment is subject to the decision of the selection committee.

Changes

The school reserves the right to change the instructor, class schedule, time, venue, and content of the program as needed.

Continuing Education Fund (CEF)

The program is listed on the CEF reimbursable course list and is recognized at Level 4 of the Qualifications Framework. The CEF course code is 44K, and the course name is "Advanced Certificate in Supporting Children and Adolescents with Special Educational Needs."

Course Fee

The course fee is $24,000, and the application fee is $150.

Language

The program is taught in Cantonese, supplemented with English.
