Master of Arts in Buddhist Studies
The Master of Arts in Buddhist Studies is a postgraduate program designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Buddhist studies. The program is applicable to students admitted in and thereafter.
Study Scheme
The study scheme for the Master of Arts in Buddhist Studies consists of the following components:
- Coursework Requirement:
- Required courses: 6 units (any 2 required courses: BUDS5013, BUDS5005, or BUDS5014)
- Elective courses: 15 units (any 5 elective courses could be selected from 4 areas)
- Project (Graduation Paper) BUDS5012: 3 units
- Total: 24 units
Areas of Study
The program offers four areas of study:
- Area 1: Chinese Buddhism
- Area 2: Buddhism and Chinese Culture
- Area 3: Buddhism and Society
- Area 4: Language Courses
Other Requirements
- Students must take at least one course per term throughout the normative study period as stipulated in the “General Regulations Governing Postgraduate Studies”.
- A student who obtains a cumulative grade point average (GPA) below 2.0 in the preceding term will be put on academic probation.
Program Structure
The degree requires a total of 8 courses, i.e., 24 units to be completed within one year for full-time students and two years for part-time students.
