Master of Arts in Cultural Management

The Master of Arts in Cultural Management program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the cultural management field. The program covers various aspects of cultural management, including cultural development and policy, concepts of contemporary culture, and cultural management and arts administration.


Required Courses

  • CULS5313 Cultural Development and Policy: This course explores the cultural and creative industries and their impact on policies around the world. Students will gain a deeper understanding of the global cultural economy and how cultural policies affect the work of practitioners.
  • CULS5301 Concepts of Contemporary Culture: This course introduces basic theoretical perspectives and areas of interest in cultural studies. Students will survey how the cultural turn in humanities and social sciences helps us understand everyday life in a fresh way.

  • CULS5317 Xiqu and Performing Culture: This course introduces the essential artistic elements of Xiqu and analyzes different kinds of mutations and transformations in practicing.
  • CULS5401 Contemporary Arts & Cultural Interactivity: This course studies contemporary art systems and institutions as cultural forms within the broader ‘cultural ecology’ of modern cities.
  • CULS5415 City Imaginaries and Cinema Poetics: This course examines the intersection of urban and cinematic experiences and encourages students to record and decipher their own experiences and imagine their living cities with self-produced short films.
