Program Overview


Specialised Foundation Programme (SFP)

The Specialised Foundation Programme gives medical graduates the opportunity to gain clinical training experience in research, teaching, leadership, and management. Managed through the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, placements are offered at our Barts Health NHS Trust; St Bartholomew’s, Royal London, Mile End, Whipps Cross, and Newham Hospitals.


Programme Structure

This is a 2-year programme with one Academic placement in the second year of training (FY2). The specialties are:


  • Neurology
  • Hepatology
  • Clinical Pharmacology/Critical Care
  • Public Health
  • Trauma and Orthopaedics
  • Endocrinology and Diabetes
  • Medical Oncology/Nuclear Medicine
  • General Practice

Each specialty rotates every 4 months during the FY2 year, in August, December, and April.
