The Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) offers a unique program for international students and those from outside the Catalan linguistic domain, aiming to provide a solid foundation in Catalan language and culture. This program, known as the UPF Diploma in Catalan Language and Cultural Studies (CATStudies), recognizes the effort and dedication of students in learning Catalan beyond their primary academic itinerary.
Description
The CATStudies program is designed to integrate students who are not initially Catalan speakers with local students, promoting the knowledge of Catalan language and culture among the UPF community. The program offers a range of courses and activities that cater to different levels of proficiency, from beginners to advanced learners.
Target Audience
The CATStudies program is intended for:
- International students staying at the UPF.
- Students from outside the Catalan linguistic domain staying at the UPF.
- Undergraduate, master's, or doctoral students at the UPF from outside the Catalan linguistic domain who completed their secondary education in Spain, outside of Catalan-speaking territories.
- Undergraduate, master's, or doctoral students at the UPF from outside the Catalan linguistic domain who completed their secondary education abroad, in countries where Catalan is not an official language, and did not study in Catalan.
Characteristics
To obtain the CATStudies diploma, students must complete a minimum of 7 ECTS credits through courses and activities included in the CATStudies program catalog.

- Parelles lingüístiques (Language exchange)
- Participació a 5 activitats i visites culturals (Participation in 5 cultural activities and visits)
- Lengua y cultura catalanas (Catalan language and culture)
- Llengua i cultura catalanes I and II (Catalan language and culture I and II)
Credits
Students must obtain a minimum of 7 ECTS credits from the program's catalog to apply for the diploma. However, students can choose to complete more credits if desired.
Implementation Course
The program is implemented annually, with an updated offer each year.
Application
The UPF Diploma in Catalan Language and Cultural Studies must be applied for through a specific form, which requires attaching necessary documentation (certificates of completion, reports, grades, etc.) to accredit the achievement of formative activities and the obtaining of a minimum of 7 ECTS credits.
