Program Overview


Introduction to the Global Studies Program

The Global Studies program is designed for students from around the world who want to understand the cultural, economic, legal, environmental, political, social, and technological phenomena that affect us today, regardless of our geographical location.


Program Details

  • Duration: 4 years
  • Tuition Fees: Approximately 1,202.32€ per year for EU students and 6,800.32€ per year for non-EU students
  • Places: 70 places available, with 40 for students from EU educational systems and 30 for students from non-EU educational systems
  • Admissions: Access and admission to the Global Studies program is exclusive to students with a high school diploma or equivalent from outside the EU
  • Branch of Knowledge: Social Sciences and Law
  • Schedule: Morning schedule for the first and second years, and morning and/or afternoon schedule for the third and fourth years
  • Calendar: From September to June
  • Credits: 240 ECTS
  • Languages: The first and second years are taught entirely in English, and the third and fourth years are taught in Catalan, Spanish, and English, depending on the elective courses chosen

Objectives and Competencies

  • The objective of the program is to train specialists in the phenomena that characterize the era of globalization, with a comprehensive and transdisciplinary vision from the social sciences
  • Specific Competencies:
    • Describe global phenomena that affect the entire world population from a transdisciplinary perspective
    • Analyze global phenomena based on the local-global dialectic
    • Construct a holistic vision based on the conceptual and methodological foundations of the different disciplines that make up global knowledge
    • Reflect critically on globalization and its challenges, taking into account ethical, cultural, environmental, human rights, gender, and social justice considerations
    • Recognize cultural, religious, and value diversity for understanding, managing, and resolving global conflicts and problems
    • Design and resolve global problems through different methodologies from the disciplines that make up the program
    • Demonstrate the ability to understand and intervene in contemporary problems
  • Transversal Competencies:
    • Communicate effectively in English and other languages
  • Basic and General Competencies:
    • Apply knowledge to work or vocation in a professional manner
    • Elaborate and defend arguments and solve problems in their area of study
    • Gather and interpret relevant data to make judgments that include reflection on social, scientific, or ethical issues
    • Transmit information, ideas, problems, and solutions to specialized and non-specialized audiences
    • Develop learning skills necessary to undertake further studies with a high degree of autonomy
    • Communicate ideas, content, and knowledge with clarity and precision using the most appropriate expression and discourse for each audience and context
    • Show knowledge of the implications of new ideological, political, economic, and technological forms that act in the global society from a globalized and cosmopolitan perspective
    • Develop attitudes and skills that facilitate internationalization and training as authentic citizens sensitive to the values of peace and equality, and capable of understanding, managing, and administering knowledge in a global community

Student Profile

The program is aimed at students who have completed secondary education and want to study globalization and its actors, factors, phenomena, dynamics, and processes. The presence of national and international students in the same program offers a special opportunity for intercultural coexistence and training, converting the classroom into a forum for mutual knowledge and global dialogue.

Internships

Students have the opportunity to do internships in various companies and institutions, both national and international, to gain practical experience in the field of global studies.


Stays Abroad

  • Mandatory Mobility: Students must spend a minimum of 20 ECTS abroad, either in the third or fourth year of the program
  • Double Degree Program: The program offers a double degree option with the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) in Australia, allowing students to obtain a degree in Global Studies from both institutions

Graduates of the Global Studies program can pursue careers in various fields, including international relations, global governance, human rights, environmental policy, and more.


Languages in the Program

  • Language of Instruction: English (first and second years), Catalan, Spanish, and English (third and fourth years)
  • Language Requirements: Students must have a B2 level in English at the beginning of the program
  • Language Courses: The program includes language courses in Chinese, Arabic, Russian, French, or Spanish, with the aim of reaching an A2.1 level or higher
